Defining and visualising your goals for recovery

It’s difficult to address and then overcome a problem unless you have a clear, concrete idea of the goal you’re aiming for. Before embarking on your own programme for recovery, it is important that you answer the following questions:

• What are the most important positive changes I want to make in my life?

• What would a complete recovery from my present condition look like?

• Specifically, how will I think, feel, and act in my work, my relationships with others, and my relationship with myself once I’ve fully recovered?

• What new opportunities will I take advantage of once I’ve fully recovered?

Once you’ve defined your recovery, practise visualising it. During deep relaxation, imagine your life free of problems. Visualise changes in work, activities, relationships, and appearance. Use a separate sheet to write a “script” of your ideal recovered life, covering all areas.
